We're thrilled to be hosting Dr. Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy at our store for the launch of his latest book MILK OF EQUALITY, SOURED. Translator Dr. Jytohi S. and Yogesh Maitreya will be joining Dr. Chinnaswamy on the panel, and they will be discussing the author's latest release. The details of the event are as follows-

About the book

MILK OF EQUALITY, SOURED is a remarkable book that bridges our understanding of what India constitutes, and how thoughts travel across times, manifested through historical figures, shape the course of history, and people’s emancipation. This book, elaborates journey of thoughts across the times of Buddha, Basavanna, and Babasaheb Ambedkar. This book is an education for anyone who wants to understand conflicts of thoughts in what is known as India.

About the speakers 

Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy is a well known Kannada Poet, hailing from Mudnakudu village in Chamarajanagar District of Karnataka. He was a Finance Executive by profession and retired as Director (Finance) & Financial Advisor from Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation in March 2014. Poetry is his passion but he has worked in other genres of literature as well, besides having a wide range of interests in culture, social work and theatre. He has brought out 40 books so far which include eight collections of poetry, seven of essays, three plays and two collections of short stories. His works have been translated into other Indian vernaculars, and the English translations have been published in literary journals like Indian Literature, The New Quest, Little Magazine and e-magazine Muse India as well as journals in abroad like Arquitrave-in Spanish (Columbia) Helicon- in Hebrew (Israel) in Driesch Verlag (Austria) and many more. He has been felicitated in and outside the country and graced with many awards including Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award in 2009 and Karnataka State Award in 2014 for life time achievement.

Jyothi S, Associate Professor of English at Tumkur University, Karnataka, is a distinguished and versatile writer, translator, and academic. She is the author of ATTE NIMAGONDU PRASHNE, a critically acclaimed collection of short stories in Kannada that creatively reimagines Indian mythology. With an impressive portfolio of 290 articles published in both Kannada and English, she has established herself as a prolific contributor to literary and academic discourse. Two of her short stories, originally written in English, have garnered international recognition, further underscoring her literary talent. In addition to her original works, she has demonstrated exceptional linguistic expertise and cultural fluency through her translations of numerous articles and books between Kannada and English, bridging linguistic and cultural divides.

Yogesh Maitreya is a poet, writer, cultural critic, and a translator. He is a PhD scholar at TISS, Mumbai. He has published three books, THE BRIDGE OF MIGRATION (poetry, 2017), FLOWERS ON THE GRAVE OF CASTE and OF OPPRESSOR'S BODY AND MIND (literary essays, 2020). He has translated three Marathi books in English, AMBEDKARITE MOVEMENT AFTER AMBEDKAR by J V Pawar (2016, political history), BROKEN MAN by Loknath Yashwant (2017, poetry) and WE THE REJECTED PEOPLE OF INDIA by Sunil Abhiman Awachar (2019, poetry). He has contributed more than hundred essays on literature, language, and music across various print and online platforms such as Firstpost, The Indian Express, Scroll, Centre for Stories, Roundtable India, Indian Cultural Forum, EPW, The Seminar, The Baroda Pamphlet, Buzzfeed, and The Punch Magazine. He is a founder of Panther's Paw Publication that publishes only dalit-bahujan authors.
