About the book
The book is a biography of Irawati Karve, the first female anthropologist in India. Her pathbreaking research into the Adivasis in Maharashtra, Assam, Kerala, Odisha and Bihar resulted in two seminal works, Kinship Organisation in India and Hindu Society. Her book on the Mahabharata, Yuganta, is a best-selling classic. This is a deeply researched biography, full of hitherto unknown details of Karve’s personal and professional life. Immensely readable, this is a compelling and valuable book for scholars, students and general readers.
