Status Of Adivasis/Indigenous People's Mining Series-4: Meghalaya

Meghalaya, an overwhelmingly tribal majority State, is also the most mined state in the northeast. Largely unregulated, the mining has impacted the social, economic and environmental fabric of the regions subject to large scale mining. Land ownership is predominantly on customary and traditional lines that differ from tribe to tribe. Mining has put to strain, the communal governance of land portending more conflicts.
