Sci-Fi Book Club & Book Box: A six-month journey into speculative worlds

Sci-fi today stretches far beyond imagined futures. It asks urgent questions about climate, identity, technology, and the kinds of worlds we’re moving toward.

The Champaca Sci-Fi Book Club & Book Box is a six-month reading journey designed for anyone curious about the genre, whether you’re just starting out or already reading sci-fi and looking to discover new voices and ideas. Curated by Gautam Bhatia, this is an invitation to read widely, think deeply, and be part of a community that reads together.

What this is:

Over six months, you’ll receive a set of carefully selected books that move across three themes: climate fiction, space operas, and revisited classics. 

Alongside the reading, you’ll be part of three online discussions, held once every two months and facilitated by Gautam Bhatia. These sessions are a space to reflect, question, and explore the ideas that emerge from the books, with guidance that helps you get more out of what you’re reading.

Who is this for?

If you’ve been meaning to get into sci-fi but don’t know where to start, this is a structured, thoughtful way in.

If you already read sci-fi and want to go beyond the familiar, this offers a chance to explore new themes, perspectives, and authors, with a framework that deepens the experience.

How it works:

Once you sign up, your first box will be shipped in June. Over the next six months, you’ll receive your books and reading guidance, along with access to the discussions. We’ll share details of each session closer to the dates.

Books will be shipped in sets of two: you will receive books for June and July in June, books for August and September in August, and books for October and November in October. The subscription consists of six books, but please expect three shipments in total. 

Please note if you sign up before the 2nd of June, your first box will be shipped by the 9th of June. If you sign up after the 2nd of June, your first box will be shipped in the third week of June.

Before the subscription begins, you will receive an email with a list of all books that are part of this subscription. If you already own one, we can swap it out for another from our available stock! Please note we can accommodate changes for one title only — if you already own more, we hope this new copy makes a good gift for a friend :)
