Champaca X Daak Vaak Gift Boxes: Reading Women from South Asia
Women should be seen and not heard — was and continues to be an oft-repeated belief in schools, households, and public spaces. The act of silencing women is masked by the seemingly innocent excuse of upholding their honour and respectability. In this context, using their voice to talk about their experiences becomes a powerful act of defiance.
Through a year-long collaboration with Daak, we will be curating gift boxes with books and literature-themed gifts that bring us voices from around South Asia, across themes of rebellion, social commentary, love, and loss. The books and merchandise will change every quarter and you can order again, if you’d so wish!’
Here's what you'll get as part of our first collaborative box:
- My Family by Mahadevi Varma, a collection of pen portraits on a few of the many animals with whom Mahadevi Varma chose to spend her life.
- Unbound: 2000 Years of Indian Women's Writing by Annie Zaidi, a collection of some of the most significant writing by Indian women over the past two thousand years
- 'Hungarian Gypsy Girl' by Amrita Sher-Gil - An Art Print by Daak
- 'Bharat Mata' by Abanindranath Tagore - An Art Print by Daak
