Decolonisation fundamentally means to break away from dominant structures of knowledge and validation, and Don't Want Caste exposes the modern state maintaining the exploitative systems of casteism and the marginalization of various identities. The text highlights the burden of proof on the protagonist, a young man, whose lived reality and self-definition mean nothing until they are validated by a state stamp further exposing the bureaucratic mechanisms of control and systematic/casteist inequalities that have marked our histories and continue to shape our contemporary systems till date.

Ayushree curates and runs The South Asian History Society. She has studied and worked with South Asian Literature as a student, editor, etc. and is obsessed with reading South Asian History. At the book club, she is trying to build a community of readers and hoping she gets most people around her as obsessed as she is with South Asian Literature one day.
