The Easel Man

Harkiran Janeja lives in Wariana, a village near Jalandhar, Punjab, with her family. She looked after her family’s shoe export business from 1983 to 2004 and after retirement opened a culinary school called Joys of Cooking, with her daughter. She is married, has a son, daughter and three grandchildren. This is her first book.

The silence
stretches
into eternity,

to be happy
for each

and succeed
or so

A gesture
or remark,
small and
profound,
conveys
the sad message,
whispering
in our hearts
tales of
loneliness
yet to come.

Tears form
and drop,
are quickly
wiped away …
fierce sobs
break our hearts
in solitude …
but while
we are
together
the silence
continues.
