The International Music & Arts Society was founded by Rani Vijaya Devi Kotda Sangani in Bangalore in December 1974, on the suggestion of her brother, the late Maharaja of Mysore, Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, as a cultural and charitable non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of the arts through a wide variety of music, dance, theatre and art programmes by Indian and foreign artists.

Bangalore has always had a fine tradition of patronage of the arts. In order to foster an international cultural contact in the city, the Society has collaborated with individual artists and organisations, enabling a wide and appreciative audience to witness the works of some of the finest international exponents of performing and visual arts of our time
The Society marked its 25th anniversary in 2000 with The Silver Jubilee Concerts celebrating the finest Indian traditions of Hindustani & Carnatic classical music by internationally recognised Indian musicians; a sitar concert by Ustad Vilayat Khan and a violin recital by Dr. L. Subramaniam. The Society celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2005 with a glittering show of heritage textiles and a fund raising fashion show by designers from India’s erstwhile royalty.

The International Music and Arts Society today has a membership of over three hundred members, bringing together a group of people with shared interest in the classical and contemporary arts of the world.

The Society presents an average of eight programmes through the year. Membership entitles you to a prior intimation of all programmes before sale of tickets to the public, a members discount on ticketed shows and invitations for special programmes.

The Society also organises an annual members get together and subscription tea, a popular occasion to meet other members.

Its past patrons have included Governors of Karnataka and (late) Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale, and currently Sri S.M. Krishna and Sri Srikantadatta Wadiyar.
