Mengoubi: The Fair One is a dramatic telling of Manipur's strife-torn story, highlighting the conflict in Irom Chanu Sharmila's life between her political vision for her people and her freedom to enjoy a more private life.

A housewife in Delhi, the daughter of an army officer, is visited (probably in her dreams) by a story-teller from Manipur who insists she looks at images of Irom Sharmila Chanu, the activist who starved for sixteen years protesting army rule over the state under the AFSPA. The woman's younger sister, Sheela visits her in this surreal space. The siblings are on different sides of the ideological border, one pleading the cause of civilians, and the other for the nationalistic agenda of freeing the nation of insurgents. Irom Sharmila appears with a surprising third viewpoint. Humanity wins over personal or political ideologies.
