This novel is entitled 'The Knight's Move' is an English translation of Dhaii Ghar, for which its author Giriraj Kishore won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1992. Set in the feudal setting of the rural western Uttar Pradesh, the novel straddles a period which has as its pivotal the attainment of political freedom. Kishore's arc light in thus novel moves from a period when the feudal order was basking in its pre-twilight glory, with all its internal perversities, its fierce and ruthless oppression of the treachery kept firmly suppressed, from all this to the period immediately before and after independence when this feudal order saw power slipping away fro  its grip, the rise of new political class.
