Still we Sing is an anthology of poetry on violence against women in South Asia, written by women from this part of world. Both well established and emerging women poets from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka enriched this anthology with their poems. More than 70 poets from South Asia with a more than 100 poems have contributed to this anthology.
The women poets of this anthology position them in a manner that let the world understand the power of women’s voice. These poems underscore new thematic concerns such as self-respect and the power to overcome the stigma of gender-based violence by questioning the validity of such actions in their culture and society.
Amrita Pritam, Kamla Das, Anamika, Arundhathi Subramaniam, Priya Sharukai Chhabria, Nirupama Dutt, Shanta Acharya, Deepa Agrawal, K Srilata, Deepa Agrawal, Deepti Naval, Meena Alexander, Tishani Doshi etc. from India, Tarfia Faizullah, Aysa Jhorna etc from Bangladesh, Manju Kanchuli, Geetha Tirpathee from Nepal, Famida Riaz, Zohra Nigah, Sara Shagufta, Yasmeen Hameed etc. from Pakistan and Briyanthi Arumathurai, Shamila Daluwatte, Vivimarie Vander Poorten from Sri Lanka are a few to name.
It is hope that this anthology will serve as a catalyst for our women to build-up courage and solidarity among them and help assemble their scattered voices and speak up powerfully and effectively.
