Mahadeo Govind Ranade was the prophet of modern India. He wanted to establish federal democratic republic in India. He believed in composite Indian nationalism which assured progress and unity. He was an important leader of Indian redormation movement and reinterpreted his religious philisophy by synthesizing teachings of the Brahmo Samaj, the Western ethics and the Marathi Saint Poets. His theism was Wordly humanist and morally elevating. Advocating social reforms he organized social conferences along with the sessions of the Congress to co-ordinate reform activities. He held that social and political reforms were interdependent and Indian society should cure itself of social evils to enjoy fruits of Independece. anade rejected the orientalist historiography which claimed that Indian society was a static scoiety. He tried to pointout moral import of the father of Indian economics. He rejected theory of international division of labour advocated by the Western economists, and pleaded for reorganization of Indian agriculture and industry to overcome Indian dependecy.
